2008 In Review

Where has this past year gone? We all have been so busy that this past year has been a blurr. I sat down to think of all of the happenings this year~good and bad~and this is what I came up with...

Will has been with Papa Gino's for almost two years now, but just recently he moved to the Marlboro location. We were very sad to see him leave Worcester and all of the people we have gotten to know, but bigger and better things are in store for him at this location. Working keeps Will busy most of the week, but when he isn't working he loves to spend time with Sydney. They like to play rough and he has taught her how to play hide and seek. She is really good at that game!

I (Marissa) have been working part time this past year at The May Institute as an ABA therapist. I work with autistic children in their homes and I have grown to love it! I still have the strong desire to be a stay at home mom and hopefully that will come within 2009! Besides working at The May Institute I have finally begun my scrapbooking business and am making scrapbooks for other people! This will also help bring in income when I am a stay at home mom, so we are very excited about that! I have titled my business as "Keep Your Memories Forever" and am in the process of making business cards as well!

Sydney has grown so much within this past year! She has gone from being our little chunk-a-monk to a skinny minnie! She has grown in height from 30 1/2 inches to 34 inches and weighed 22.2 lbs and now weights 25 lbs. We are so blessed to have a healthy child! She has only been sick once this entire year, and that was with only her very high fever of 105.2!

Over this past year I have monitored her speech which had me a little worried at time as to why she wasn't putting her words together in a sentence even though she had over 100 words? She was evaluated by EI and they determined that she didn't qualify for services and shortly after that she was a talking machine! Ever since November she has been talking in 2-7 word sentences!

Sydney has gone from 1 tooth to 10 teeth in the past year.

Sydney has grown to love her babies. Every time we go to the store she wants to buy a new one. During Christmas she thought that everyone was getting her a new baby. She is very empathetic towards her babies. She gets sad when she thinks they are hurt or not being taken care of. She loves to change their diapers~it was a good thing we still had newborn diapers left over.

Sydney has gone from sleeping in her crib to her big girl toddler bed this year. Sydney has made her own bedtime routine. She begins by kneeling down by her bed and saying her prayers. Then she hops into bed where we read a bedtime story and then watch her View Master Wall projector, then off to sleep she goes! She is so easy to put to bed!

We have attempted potty training, but it has been more of my fault than hers as to why she isn't yet. That is one thing we will be working on in the upcoming months. Ever since April 2008 she has been going on the potty though!

Sydney thankfully hasn't hit the terrible two's yet! She has been trying to be more independent lately, but still knows that she needs to obey. There are times when she has been whining and we ask her to stop, and she punishes herself. She will go in her room and sit on her chair and come out when she is happy. That chair is like a switch, she is a totally different kid after sitting on it for only a minute. We will ask her when she is sitting in the chair if she is ready and she says "no, not happy" and will continue to sit. We pray that she will continue with this pattern and obey and not hit those terrible 2's and 3's.

In this past year Sydney has learned all her colors, receptively and expressively. She knows how to count to 4, but also knows what "1,2,3,4" actually is. We have begun to work on her letters. She loves to learn about animals. She knows most of her shapes. Sydney picks up quickly, if she is told something once she usually remembers it.

Sydney has been in two weddings this past year as a flower girl and of course stole the show in both. She was in her Uncle Andy's wedding and in her Auntie Sarah's wedding. She did a great job in both. Someday it will really be her walking down that isle~I better not get too far ahead of myself.

Will and I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful child! She is everything we ever prayed for! We love her so much and cherish every day we have with her. We can't imagine life without her!

Now onto looking ahead to 2009:
In the upcoming year Will and I are praying about buying a house and moving back to PA. God is opening many doors to make that happen. We went out house hunting while we were in PA a few weeks ago and found the perfect house for us! If God wants us to move to PA we will first need to find Will a good job to support the family where then I will be a stay at home mom!

As for Sydney, we just hope she is potty trained soon. We also would like to see her keep growing and learning, and of course grow some more teeth!
